Blog Theme Sneak, Sneak Peek

Web UX

No, it isn't a typo, this is a second sneak peek at my upcoming blog theme.  I'm really tired of this canned theme but haven't had a chance to finish slicing and dicing my Photoshop file into a real working theme on BlogEngine.NET.

I took what I had before and thought it was still too busy and didn't emphasize the content that I wanted it to.  So I stripped it back to the basics and added a few nice touches--the new one is an ultra-minimal theme that hopefully will make it easy to find what you're looking for and nothing you aren't.

Please, tell me what you think!

Tim - I really like the look of this.
Are you planning on writing about the process to create BlogEngine skins? What are the benefits/limitations that you've found using it as a CMS? I really like the simple minimalism over your previous post. Keep up the great work!

Thanks, Caleb!  And yes, I do plan on writing about how I've created the two BlogEngine themes I've done and how it works as a CMS, particularly the new 1.5 version.  Thanks for the great reminder--it's high on my to do list for the blog now that you mentioned it.

I like this. I like simplicity and 'pure'. Smile I like the new design of the logo...how the font is. I'd probably need to see it in full size. What if you put a light color (grey) vertical bar/border that's 1px between the left column and the main content...OR an vertical edge that has a gradient that merges into the left column? You're the pro though. I like the new look.

Thanks, James!  A couple of different people actually suggested adding a vertical line between but I decided it was more distractful than helpful - just another line on the page, and with minimalism every pixel matters (or so I'm learning).  So I just increased the blank space between sidebar and the main content and that seems to separate it pretty well from the best I can tell.  Thanks for your input!
